Intervention by Integration

Here are some ideas discussed during Dr. Wesley Perkins' visit:

  • Invite the ATOD coordinator into your classroom. He can tailor the message specifically to your curriculum. You could even invite him to speak on a day you're planning to be out of town so you don't have to cancel a class.
  • Invite the ATOD coordinator to speak to your club. The Social Norms message can be tied into every major...Aviation, Early Childhood, anything that involves management...You name it! Alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs effect people in every business, occupation, and major.
  • Suggest to your advisees to take the Alcohol and College Life course being offered in Spring 2004.
  • Do not change the date of an assignment or test because you think students will be too busy partying and not studying. They are adults and they need to learn how to manage their time. They can take tests every day of the week.
  • Do not joke about "big parties." House parties is where the majority of illegal activities take place. We support responsible choices, not illegal activities.
  • Make it clear to students that you do not accept poor performance. Academics needs to be a priority over social activities.
