Career Counseling
Assist students to analyze interests, aptitudes, abilities, previous work experience, personal traits and desired life styles to promote awareness of the interrelation between self-knowledge and career choice. Obtain occupation information including exploration experiences such as internships, and summer and part-time jobs. Help students make reasoned, well-informed career choices not based on race/sex stereotypes and set short and long range goals. To promote the National Career Development Guidelines of Self-Knowledge, Educational and Occupational Exploration and Career Planning in relation to UMC's core component of Career/Life Adaptability.
A Career Center Laboratory is maintained by the Career and Counseling Department to provide current information useful for career planning. Included within the Career Services laboratory are three docking stations for laptop computer hookup. Computerized versions of the Strong Interest Inventory and the Myers-Briggs Type Inventory and hard copies of the Self Directed Search Inventory for individual career assessment.
